The industrial ear piercing is done by creating two piercings with a hollow piercing needle. One piercing is close to the head or the top of the ear with the second piercing further down on the cartilage, on the opposite side of the ear. A straight barbell is inserted through the first piercing from behind the ear and then goes through the second piercing. The piercing is then secured with a screw-on bead behind the second hole.

Captive bead rings or a barbell can be used during healing. Captive bead rings do normally heal faster than barbells, however not all piercers will pierce and then use captive bead rings. Industrial piercings can take from three months to one year to completely heal.

Special jewelry should be used for all nape piercings to minimize the risk of rejection. Tygon or teflon are used with surfacebars and barbells for long term and short term nape piercing jewelry.

I have saw corset piercings done on legs and on the side of the body as well.

Most corset piercings are for temporary use. The corset piercing healing time is long and one is subject to infection or rejection especially if done with captive bead rings and lacked immediately. Corset piercings done with captive bead rings will almost always end up in rejection. A corset piercing that is done to be permanent should be pierced with surface bars.

Even though using surface bars are not as sexy as rings with lace, if you want to try and have your corset piercing long term, it is a must for proper healing.

The monroe piercing/crawford piercing is extraordinary and is incredibility sexy. More women have the crawford piercing than men, however more men are starting to follow. I think this piercing looks great on women but I am not very fond of it on men. Perhaps I have just never saw a sexy male with one!

Proper placement of surface piercings are vital for the correct healing process. Many times with a surface piercing the body rejects the jewelry as a foreign object. When this happens the jewelry is pushed to the surface, causing the piercing to grow out or be pushed out.

Common surface piercings include:

• Wrist/Forearm piercing
• Madison piercing
• Corset piercing
• Nape piercing
• Hip piercing

Hip surface piercing. A Hip piercing is a piercing in the pelvic area through the skin near the hip bone. Usually hips piercing are done one for each hip.

Hip piercings are becoming very popular among women and look very sleek when done properly.

Usually hip piercings done with long surface bars are better because more skin is pierced and the piercing is less superficial and that reduce the risk of rejecting.

Neck Piercing: A neck piercing is a series of surface piercings done to emulate the appearance of a bite on the side of a person’s neck. A barbell is placed in the skin of the side of the neck.

When the earring/barbell is removed it looks like a vampire bite.

Surface bars and microdermals are the jewelry for the neck piercing, with microdermals being the best.

Madison Piercing: The madison piercing is a surface piercing that goes through the skin at the front of the neck.

Some piercers prefer to do these piercings with microdermals, which is a single point piercing jewelry. Microdermals are used in locations that may become irritated.
